Taking on a Major Challenge
In 1996, I was entrusted with a career-defining opportunity—leading the transition of the Dación oil field from PDVSA to a strategic alliance between Schlumberger and Lasmo. As the Main Project Engineer, my role was to take control of an aging oil field, modernize its infrastructure, and dramatically increase production efficiency.
When I stepped into this role, Dación was a mature field with declining production, high water cut, and outdated surface facilities. My challenge was clear:

The Strategy: Modernizing Dación’s Operations

- Redesigned surface facilities, optimizing oil-water separation and processing.
- Implemented multizone gravel packing and centrifugal water separation.
- Installed modular processing facilities to expand production capacity.

- Introduced new well completion technologies to improve recovery rates.
- Optimized drilling operations, reducing well drilling time from 15 days to just 5 days.
- Used multiphase metering to improve real-time monitoring and cut downtime by 40%.
